The logger said I would have got about 150 to 200 bucks for the tree. I would have liked to cut it the spring but I had to take advantage of the heavy equipment..... where the tree was at we would have never gotten it out..it was a now or never situation.

I wish I had access to some heavy equipment this summer.  Hauling out bow wood is some hard labor.
I started out with nothin' and I still got most of it left

That's a nice haul.  I took one 6"diameter x 7' trunk out of the woods on my shoulder last spring and it just about killed me.  Got 4 nice staves out of it, but never got back out to get the other half of the tree in time, which was kind of disappointing.  97 staves in one haul....wow!

You make fewer trips if you haul out a bunch at a time ;)

I understand straightarrow, sounds like you had a good plan.Wished I could find a logger around here that would give 150.00 for Hickory like that,I could retire,My place is full of it. :) I had the timber management folks from tn. come and tell me what I need to do to manage the time on my place and they told me to cut   all the Hickory and beach down and if I couldn't 't find someone to buy it let it rot to make room for the good trees. :o ??? Oak mainly,  One good thing is I will never run out of bow wood/fire wood . :)

I hear ya !
My boss bought one of those hills in Ten. we used hickory off of it for like ten years in the cab shop then he sold the land for more than he gave!
Wish he would buy another one I would love to come down and see whats there !
