New to me Marlin 336 30-30

Just got a new lever rifle.  I had one a few years ago that i had to sell and I have regretted it ever since.  Finally got another one and this one isn't going anywhere.  I looked up the serial # and it was made in 1982 but looking at it you would think it was almost brand new.  Who ever had it before me took excellent care of it.  Just thought I would share.  Thanks for looking!

It's a good one. I had one like that with the Gold trigger in .444.

That does look brand new. I always prefered the action on the marlin over the model 94, just seems smoother IMO. good find

I had one just like that too but mine had a 4x scope on it. I traded it for a Ruger 44 mag semi-auto carbine. Killed lots of deer with the 30-30.

Josh there has been a .30-30 in my arsenal for 40 years. Look into the Leverevolution ammo from Hornady.

You sure about the date of manufacture ?  I don't see a cross bolt safety and can't remember when they were made law. The lack of one makes the gun even
more appealing at least to me.

My first deer rifle was a 336 in 35 Rem.

One time a friend and I went hunting on a cold, snowy day on Skyline Mgt Area, froze out and went home for lunch and heavier clothes. I changed coats at lunch time, about 30 miles from home I discovered my bullets were in the coat I left at home.

We stopped at every mom and pop grocery store along the way to try to find 35 Rem bullets, plenty of 30-30, 30-06, 270 and all the other common calibers at every stop, but no 35Rem.

I sold the gun and bought a 700 Rem in 308, haven't had trouble finding ammo since.

I think I bought into the "brush gun" theory back then(40 years ago), hence the 35 Rem with it's 200gr bullet as my choice in calibers.

One thing I remember about the 336 was it was rock solid and very well made.

thanks everyone!  Lane, the crossbolt safety came out in 83.. mine was the last year not to have it...  the way you find out the year on the 336's AFTER 1973 is take the first 2 digits of the serial # and subtract from 100.  my first 2 is 18 making mine a 82.   i have been doin a ton of research on these guns lately. Eric i still want a 35 rem model... they say if you load your own rounds you can put alot more powder behind that 200 grain bullet and end up with a flatter trajectory for longer shots...

One of my best shots ever was with that same gun. I was about 40' up in a large hickory in the center of a 200ac field. My buddy was busting the bushes after he got off stand and jumped a doe. He yelled "here she comes" and when I saw her bust out of the bushes and head across the field I threw up the gun and shot, levered another round and shot the second time. The doe hit the ground. When we pased off the shot it was 225 paces. Hit her in the neck so didn't loose any meat.

That is all the deer and hog rifel you will ever need here in these southern woods and swamps.

My brother owes one in 44mag.  It is good for 50 to 60 yards.

I have an 1895 in .45/70.  Rock solid.  I shoot a smallish 420 gr slug which is devistating on Bison-really!  I have used it on one. I also used it on whitetails and it does well on them too.  Very little blood shot meat-you can eat right up  to the hole.
A friend in TX has had the .35 Rem and says it is dandy for deer.
