I want to present you a new bow - nothing backed laminated this time, against my normal habit:

Ash-Selfbow with rawhide

• Length  711/4'' / 181cm
• semipyramidal frontprofile
• Width at the Fade Outs 1 25/32'' (45mm) , parallel for about 12'' (30cm), to 7/16'' (11mm) at the tips
• 37lb / 28''

The characteristics of this piece of ash were/are a little bit of setback in the handle and very thin annual rings - there is a number of 10 rings on 5/16'' (8mm).
As a friend of mine saw this ash, he recommended me to saw it in 12''-pieces … but I suppose I am to obstinate.
Owing to these thin rings it was clear, that the bow has to be long, wide, needs a additional protection against breaking and is limited in the draw weight.

The rawhide is from roe deer 1mm thick and very tough. It is self-made by a friend and looks very ancient, so I decided to make this bow to be suitable for stone-age-events by using linen for the string and the windings. The string has no spliced ears but just knots. The tip-overlays are from horn.

thats a good looking bow!

It is indeed a beautiful bow with amazing tips.....  but...  isn't rawhide technically a backing..?  ;)

Stunning bow, as others have mentioned the nocks are elegant but the whole piece flows together and works very well... very easy on the eyes.  Well done.

I like everything about that bow.  I like the ancient look.  As many have said those tips are awesome.  The string, handle, backing, linen wrapping, etc.  Awesome.
