Some new Trade Points
« on: May 01, 2011, 10:14:19 pm »
These are some new trade points I made yesterday. They are made from old reciprocating saw blades. They are 7/8 inches wide and 2.5 inches long. They weigh from 130 to 148 grains. Not bad for not weighing while shaping and grinding! I'll get them all down to around 120-125 grains in the next couple of days. Thanks for looking..... Bill

I halfted one of my points on an arrow today and it shot great. I shot it into a foam target 15 times and it's still holding strong. I got 8 inches of penetration and it wasn't even sharpened yet!!

I have reciprocating saw blades but they seem very soft, and bend rather easily.  Did you heat treat your points?  What size of saw blade do you use?  I have an old table saw blade, have you ever tried making arrow heads out of that?

The blade type was a demolition blade. The blade itself was fairly thick and the points won't bend easily. Most saws all blades are high carbon steel andtake a good edge.
