R.R.Spike Knife.

i did enjoy seeing that.definitly a unique knife. better like to talk cause thats going to be a real conversation starter.

I would also love to see the build-a-long on this. Was that a 'normal' size spike or one of the smaller ones?

Bowmakers are a little bent, but knappers are just plain flaky.

Beven I drive a coal train for a power co. and the railroad people told me spikes with numbers or letters on the head is good carbon steel.Good for knives.That is a regular size spike.

That's genius.  Where can a guy find those spikes, aside from pulling them from a track?  >:D

I would definitely be interested in seeing how you made it as well.  Man, I need to get into knife making...

Good to see another fellow blacksmith here I wish my forge wasent  sick  the sulferic acid finally got to it, it lasted about 3 years  lol. You did good on the blade I like. looks alot like the ones I make. Ttyl

i find spikes all the time,just walk along the tracks and keep your eyes on the ground
as kids we used to walk the tracks looking for ball bearings that had fallen out
we would use them as "steelies" for playing marbles  ;)
i always wanted a harley,untill it became the "thing to ride"
i ride because i love to,not to be part of the crowd

That is a cool knife, are those a lot of work to make or what sort of tools do you need to do it is what I mean?

I am always looking on the ground for steel and my work partners always come to me with spikes wanting to make them a knife.I have a big pile of steel.

Mmmm, I remember 'steelies'.....and boulders, and peeries (the clear ones without any marbling).  Aw man.

My brother is a welder and he always talks about building a forge.  I think I need to send him a link to this page, to plant a little seed in his brain and get him motivated :)  I can built him bows and he can make knife blanks for me, and other cool stuff like this.
