Short rawgide maple pyramid

54" tip to tip, 2.25 at the fades to 1" at the tips.  Just sawzall'd it out, it's 7/16" thick at the handle because of a beveled table saw cut.  Is this thick enough for a 60 pound bow?  Long enough?  I'm hoping to pull a couple of inches of reflex in with the rawhide but it's so thick now I was thinking of shaping it first.  I really want an elk bow though, and the rings go [=] with the back being the top of that.  A few v grain marks but the side grain is fairly straight, only one run off, and it's partial.  I would appreciate any input, just hoping for some advice before I make too many shavings.

If you see any "V"s on the back of the bow than that is a major grain violation.

I'd scrap the board or back it with wood

raw hide doesnt shrink when it dries so your not gonna get any reflex from it.

Thanks for the input guys.  There are a few v's running down the length, and off the side on one limb.  What kind of wood would you suggest to back it with?  I've got a hickory board, but it's sawn in a similar fashion.  I figured that as long as the side grain was fairly uniform I'd be alright?  I actually stretched the rawhide last time and it pulled a couple of inches in when it dried, but could have been because it was a super thin kid's bow.  I hate to scrap any wood, I'd just as soon make some shavings and see how things turn out.  I'm hoping for at least a 26-27" draw, but I'll settle for less if I can keep some draw weight.  Thanks for the input fellas, I really appreciate it.  Also, on a pyramid handle, do you make concave lines or straight fades; does it matter?  I was thinking that would make the thinnest part in the middle which would be bad news? }{  Like that, or _/.  Thanks again for your time.

Is this a board or log stave. 54" is short. 7/16 is thin. You may have to glue on a handle. Pics please. Jawge

54" with a 26" draw is pretty short...string angle is going to be right around 90 degrees at full draw.

Shortest 26" draw bow I've made is 50" N2N but its only 30lbs
