Hi All,
Following on from some gentle unintended prompting from Stan (Backgardenbowyer) last year, I bought a blade and made myself a Scandinavian style knife. The blade is an Anssi 125 in hardened and tempered high carbon steel. It has a rhombic/diamond shaped cross section which made it a swine to fit to the handle, but it is incredibly sharp and a great shape. The handle is made up of brass, buffalo horn, brass, then alder root, brass and finally a large pommel of buff horn. The finish is CCL knife oil kit.
I'm not completely happy with the sheath but it will be fine for now. It is made from wet formed veg tanned 3mm leather with a skived, turned lip, and thick leather inserts in the blade area. I gave it three coats of Fiebings leather dye in British Tan colour, and then rubbed it down with a bone folder. The final finish was brown boot polish.
Hope you like it - it will be accompanying me to shoots from now on.
