Latest Knife

Hmm.... I haven't posted anything on here in a while, so here goes-

This is my latest project:
I had been thinking about doing some inlay work on a knife handle for a while, and then I got to thinking that if I don't start something, I'll never do anything! So I got started. ;)
     The handle is hickory darkened with an ebony stain and the blade was cut out of a circular saw blade. What is the name for the piece between the blade and handle? -That part is made of cow horn.
The inlay work is various beads set into the wood in a 'moon and stars' formation. Overall, the knife is 6" long, and the blade is 2 3/4".
On this knife, I tried for the first time to do some vinework on the back of the blade. I think it turned out pretty well for my first time. :)

What are y'all's suggestions for polishing the blade? Not to a mirror finish, but a bit more than it is now.

 Well, I think you did a darn good job. Anybody would be proud to carry that knife. Your file work looks great. You can get a better polish by just stepping up with finer grade sandpaper. You can finish up with 1200 or 1400 grit emory cloth.

dang i realy like that file work
beautiful work
i take a belt sander belt and flip it inside out and put it back on the sander and run the blade on that
i learned that from someone on here,works nice easier than hand sanding
but i have never gotten them as shiny as hand sanding either
but i dont care as long as they no longer look like saw blades  ;D

Thanks a lot guys. I've found that when I take my time on my projects, I'm a lot happier about how they turn out. Go figure.  ;)

Oh, Eddie, my dad just so happened to be making a trip to Home Depot last night, and so it is now polished with fine sandpaper. Looks better, thanks.
I'll have to try some of those other methods y'all suggested. Thanks for those, too. :)

Which files did you use?  I've never attempted file work, but this provides motivation.

i use valve lapping compound. buy it at auto parts store.comes in a tube its cheap and just put it on a cotton buffing wheel.it will polish out to what ever finish you desire. beautifull knife, that deserves a mirror finish.

very cool,  simple blade with great accents with the spine design.   i've made a few knives from old files but nothing that good.  my wife said my first one looked like a steak knife.  i bought some simple steel sheets from lowe's to practice.  not great steel but it'll be ok till im better.
