61 1/2" osage splinter

While picking through the throw away pile I found this osage splinter. There was plenty of thickness but it was only 3/4" to 7/8" wide. I was gonna see if I could get a bow of 50# or better out of this splinter. But it wasn't to be. She had issues with twists, whoop te dos and snakes that had to be tamed and thus I wasn't gonna make 50#. So I opted for a sweet shooting light weight bow for a youngster or beginner. She is 61 1/2"t/t, 35#@24". She is built with a semi rounded belly, limb width is straight to the last 6" and tapers to 1/4" tips. Black walnut overlays at the tips and handle riser...and she is a sweet shooter.    Pat

Pat I captured a FD pic of your splinter bow ... or was that a splinter of your Full Draw bow pic?  Oh well, in either case I now have it on Page11 of my TBD pages. Pretty little Osage is gonna make some kid or lady mighty happy, buddy.

Thanks everyone. I'm gonna keep trying to see how little of osage it takes to make a 50# bow. 
   Jesse, the handle wrap is hemp cord from Wally World. I wrapped it tight and set it with Massey finish. It makes for a very comfortable, slip resistant wrap. This hemp cord is tough stuff. The red above and below the wrap is silk thread.  Pat

Nice looking bow Pat.  If you need to practice your finishing skills, it looks like that wall is in need of a little finish.    No, never mind. That would take away from time building and shooting bows. Justin

Nice bow Pat, not all the bows we make need to be 55lbs, some people need lighter bows, someone is gonna be awfully glad you picked that splinter out of the pile.

Justin, The siding is cypress and has been on the house 17 years. Why should I finish it now?
VB and Eliseo, I have been making more and more of the lighter weight bows. I'll be posting another soon. I donate them to help pay my way in the archery world. Not many bows out there for kids and beginners. There is always at least one kids bow in the throw away pile if everyone would just look.     Pat

Pat, don't forget that kids bows can be great for getting you out of a rut. When you have a few bows break and your getting down on yourself, its time to build a kids bow.  The lighter weight usually guarantees you will have success. Justin

DANG!  -  i was gone for 4 weeks and didn't have chance to keep track to what's happening at PA and now i find all these beautifull bows posted! VERY exciting!
