An Afternoon On MY New Deer Lease (Picture Heavy)
« on: September 09, 2010, 12:23:39 am »
Well the Wife was wanting to go Looking for Wildlife today after Supper...so We packed up the Lariat and took a ride...kinda glad We did...Wasn't expecting to see a thing...it was only 5:30...and the Sun was still high in the Sky...We came through an old Railroad Cut...and when it opened up...it opened on a large Plum Thicket to my right...I was looking out a few hundred yards...when all of a sudden this young 6 point Mulie popped up out of the Plum Thicket...the Camera didnt focus clearly on Him for some reason...but I had to show Ya!

We went through another old Railroad Cut...that emptied out on a Section Line with a Gate...the Wife got out to open the gate...when She said..."Michael...look in the Draw"...and there were 8 Mulies...6 Bucks...and two Doe...no Idea why the Doe were with this Group...too early for the Rut...unless They were Button Bucks...and I just can't see Antler...Man I can't wait for Deer Season to open up!!

Then there was this little Fellow....he was as big arond as a Baseball Bat...and a good 6 foot long...my wife was sitting on the Window Sill looking in the Draws with Binoculars...when She yelled "Stop....Snake"   So I hit the Brakes....and grabbed the Camera as it was crawling up the Bank...I got a little closer than the Snake...and the Wife thought was safe...She was yellin...and teh Snake was a Buzzin...but I got soem good pictures! And no...I didn't make a Bow Backing out of Him...they are getting too Scarce around here....I haven't seen one this Big in 15 years...So this big Momma gets to eat more Rats and Rabbits....I like Buzz-Tails.......... :P

Boy I hope you have a LOOOOONG lens on that camera!  :o  Cool pic, Michael.
As long as those guys are in velvet the testosterone ain't started flowing so there is no reason for the does to leave. Once the velvet drops off the testosterone begins to flow and the race(pre-rut) is on!!!
That is about the same time as their patterns change too. I guess because the fall mast crop starts to ripen about the same time.

ps. Get a little wet today or did Hermine miss you?

Pat...we didn't get a Drop of rain here...it all came down as Virga....We had Black-assed Thunderheads....Lightning...and Rain...but the Atmosphere was so dry...not a drop hit the Ground

Oh...and the Lens was a 35-150mm...and I was within 5 foot of Her when I was snapping Pictures...they won't hit You...unless You make them agitated...and I was talking nice to her.... ;D..and She didn't even Buzz...till I took that last picture from about 3 foot!

Tim...thats one thing I was thinking to myself ..."you know this one Snake could back Two Bows"....but I just can't kill anything .... Unless I am going to eat it...just the way I was brought up...and to me unless I was in a Survival Situation...there ain't enough Meat on a Snake to fool with...would rather eat a Possum or Porkie...hell even a Jackrabbit eats better than a Snake.... :P

Anyone that wants to make the Trek to the Texas Panhandle...c/mon...we'll go git a Mulie...but I promised one of them to Josh...if He sends Me that Bow...I'll go make Meat with it......... >:D

Awesome pictures!  It's so cool to be able to sit here and have lunch and daydream a little bit from work.  For a few minutes, more...
Thanks for sharing.
