working on first bow
« on: August 04, 2010, 08:05:00 pm »
Hey guys, I'm in the process of making my first bow, an osage flatbow. I got the dimensions from the Bowyers Bible.  I have the bow limbs bending and floor tillered (I think). Here is a pic of where I am at.

Any advice from here besides go slow? I am unsure of how to procede with tillering with the limbs starting off naturally unbalanced like they are.  Also I am unsure of what length of a string I should get when that time comes, tip to tip it is 68". I am aiming for about a 55lb bow.  Any help or advice would be great. Thanks!

Dave

That's a tough tiller. You may consider reflexing that left limb with dry heat from a stove or heat gun. You can do it in a vice. That really is a dark osage for one that has been worked on.  There are some buildalongs on my site. Jawge
