Hickory Shoot Pics
« on: May 31, 2010, 02:57:49 pm »
Here are a few pics from the NC Traditional State Championships shoot. As usual, all of us forgot to take a camera out on the 3d courses, but we got a few from camp. Had a great time, it was good to see everyone again and hang out, eat good, and do some shooting, knapping, picking, and such.

Hanging around Dave and Cora Knight's set-up:

Rebecca and Jeremiah Parker:

Gabriel Parker and Chris Cade (Mechslasher:)

Alan Brown chilling out:

Patrick Brennan (LilPat) knapping:

Patrick's girlfriend Hannah knapping:

Wade (N2everythg) and his daughter Kate in the knapping pit. Kate is learning to knap and is getting to be quite a good shot with her osage bow, too.

Barry, AKA "No Keys" McCall:

An all-night jam session broke out Friday night:

Pat under the influence of too much.....uhhh........music....yeah, that's what it was:  :)

Cody lulls everybody to sleep with random dulcimer music:

We ate good. David Knight brought his big cooker and kept us well-fed all weekend:

Saturday night, we threw a fish fry. Me and Chris slaved over hot deep-fryers cooking up about twenty pounds of catfish fillets and a half-bushel of hushpuppies. Everybody threw in some side dishes, and we ate 'till we hurt.

It looks like a great time at that event.

El, what is keeping you from creating and organizing your own event? I’ve hosted a couple of atlatl tosses and organized a larger Roman / ancient weekend at my club, have done some bow making and atlatl demos (Farm Day, Franklin County Fair), and am in the middle of putting together a fairly large Stone Age themed primitive skills and archery event for the fall, with lots of kid activities. It is a lot of work, but incredibly gratifying. I think one of the biggest lessons I have learned is to not overpromise, be honest about the size and scope of an event you can handle, get commitments early, and keep it fun for yourself, so you dont burn out or go crazy with the little details.

Bet you some Yoopers would help you get it going.
