Tip Overlays

 How do you put tip overlays on bamboo? Is a certain kind of glue used? And last. At what point do you add them?

Tip overlays look the best if you cut the pocket for the overlay at an angle toward the belly. This way you won't have a big lump of an overlay perched on the back of your bow.

I normally use Urac for overlays but have used superglue with good results as well.

Here is an example of an overlay on bamboo installed the way I described. You can see in the pictue that the overlay is only glued on about 1/4" of bamboo because of the taper, the rest is glued on the osage core.

Eric, that is a good example of your excellent craftsmanship. Do you have other photos of the of that fine weapon?

No good pictures of the bow. I had a guy snap it up at the Hill shoot 5 minutes after I parked my camper.

 Thanks Eric.  Do you concave the overlay to fit the roundness of the boo?

I use Super Glue....and cut them about the same.... and Hillbilly...you just file it or belt sand the Boo flat on an Angle...and glue the Overlay on...you don't cope it out to fit the Boo....

  Hillbilly, read his first post, the overlay is just barely touching the boo, most of it was ground away.

One more thing, I sometimes add the overlay after floor tillering so I may have a slightly rounded belly on a limb, real hard to clamp to. I have found a Popsicle stick will conform to the rounded belly and hold the clamps just fine.
