oval on screen
« on: May 02, 2010, 09:40:52 am »
i keep seeing that there is some way to super impose an elipse on screen over the full draw pics.is this easy to do or do you need a specific programme for it??looks like a great way to check tiller.

i take the pic and place it in "windows paint"
thats the only program i use, some use a differant one
its easy once you try it

i use it on every bow i make, but i dont use it as a definate on the tiller, just as a tool like would a sureform or scraper  ;)
i always wanted a harley, untill it became the "thing to ride"

Mox - the basic technique is to paste your photograph into a graphics program like Windows Paint or MacDraw or some such.  Then you use the Oval tool (every program has one) to draw a horizontal oval on top of the picture, with the top center of the oval on the center of the bow.  That lets you easily see where one limb, or part of a limb is not following the curve in the same way that the other is...

I have a Macintosh computer, so I use the AppleWorks Draw program that come with it. Here, for example is the final tiller-tree shot of my "Second-First" bow.:

Damned good information Tim.....Glad you were paying attention when I was teaching Class......  >:D

And the best way to use it ....is to use it on only the working part of the limbs....not the Stays or molle stiff tips....gives you a false tillern..just try and ghost the working parts....

Click on start    All Programs   Accesories   Paint.    This simple, free editor program is on all Windows computers. Bring up your picture from File. You can draw ellipses, circles, etc and then save the file with the same or a new name.

just adding to what has already been said...

Just make sure your original picture is perfectly squared up and straight.   Otherwise it will give you a false perspective on your tiller.

I wish I was then maybe some of his flintknapping skillz would rub off on me.  He did a point at the classic that was so thin I swear once you turned it sideways, it dissappeared.   :)

thanks for the compliment though, you are pretty savvy in the bow making department too though Mike.   :)
