Sweet looking billits,that should make a fine bow. Greg makes some templets like that.They work great. Take down would be cool also.

Well...things ain't looking good for the snake bow
 I got her spliced together this weekend while I was at Pappys.
 After I got home I started thinning the limbs down some, just trying to get them floor tillered.   
The very first time I flexed them I could hear a little "tearing" sound
 I hadn't bent it 2" when I heard this. So I pushed on it again and heard the same sound.
 I knew one of the limbs had a questionable spot in it and aftr looking a little closer, I don't have any faith that it'll hold together.
  The first picture is of the crack without any stress.
 The second picture is with it flexed maybe 2". She's starting to open up pretty good...NOT TOO GOOD
 If that crack opens up that much at 2" of bend...It's DOOMED
 
 It would have made a pretty one, but I'm not putting much more effort into it.
 The sad part is that I already cut out some raw hide to match the limbs and now it's wasted

Too bad Shannon but better now than later. She would have made an incredible bow. How's the other limb at the same location?

Shannon, I have seen that alot of real snakey wood. Can't be helped. Next time?

I had a piece once that was destined to be the snakey of all snakeys..It done the same thing. I tried my best to save it.It layed in the corner for a few years,I just couldn't bring myself to cutting it up.Finally did.

Pat, the other limb is in good shape.  I may donate it to Pappy for one of his projects.
 Yea ya'll, it stinks...  But I kinda expected this from the get go

  It's just wood and I learned a long time ago to not get attatched to quick

 I got a nother'n almost as snakey and it's in good shape
 
Look on the bright side...I learned how to splice.

Been a long time since I've had so much yellar dust on the floor in the basemant.    I grabbed my other snakey stave and went to work on it a little while ago.  She ain't as snakey as the other one, but at least it made it through a little floor tillering without cracking
 This piece looks much more sound than the other one. It's also a right handed stave (I knew that other one was wrong from the get go )
 I'll get it on a form and iron out some of the wooptie doos, then proceed with a little tillering in a few days.

 Here's a shot of it beside the junk one. It's the one on the left.
