using steps as platforms?

does anyone use the end of step fractures as platforms? i sometimes can and you'll be surprised how much ugliness you can get rid of sometimes.

ya,i will try and ruff it up some way and then give it hell

 If you take one of your flakes and use it for an abrader it works pretty good. I have a special set of punches just for that.

Try this:  Put your flake back.  If you have not crushed the edge, re abrade and hit it again.  It will act like a punch and blow the hinge off.  It will actually go further because you have already removed half of the flake.  It must be the flake that came off and must be fitted back exactly.  If you can't find the flake, use a piece of copper that is hammered flat.  Tubing or wire will both work.  Bill

I have a piece of copper shaped like the end of a screwdriver that I use like a punch to knock off stacks or hinges.

I have one of those flat-ended booger-picker tools that gets used a lot prying off steps. Like Bill said, I always try fitting the flake back in and whacking it if I can, that usually works really good.

Replacing the flake and whackiner again works well if you can find it. I usually sharpen up my ishi stick real good and pop em off. Get's rid of a lot of that ugly but always seems to either dive into the rock or overshoot the other side - but hey, both those look a lot better than a step.
