is this a BOOM waiting to happen?

red oak, 72" NTN, 50# at 29", linen backed with TB II.
have a look at the wood pics, i sawed this bow outta a 4" wide plank, i could have sworn i had flawless lines before i started.  i got it to weight, took it out to shoot it and noticed a thousand run offs on this one side.  all the other edges have straight grain and seem to have no run offs.

is this bow planning on detonating at full draw and taking out one of my eyes?

george always says someting like max of 2 or 3 run offs in an oak board build...it looks to me like i'm way way past his cutoff.

performance:  it shoots good, just a little slow. i miss having the arrow shelf cut out SO MUCH.  need to make a floppy leather rest, i think.  and put something on the front to round the grip.

I don't think that's run off.  It looks like the "rays" in the wood.
Be thankfull for all you have, because no matter how bad you think it is...it can always be worse.

Looks like straight grain to me also. Nice bow, dont worry about speed, its shot placement that counts.

If you don't focus on those "run-offs" and just look at the whole limb at once, you'll see the real grain lines. It looks fine.

appreciate the input gentlemen.  i've been shooting it with safety glasses on in fear of an eyepatch inducing injury, but i feel reassured now.

I  agree, all oaks have those lines that show when it is polished up, it isnt the grain lines, they look straight

ditto all the above...rays.  I have made a dozen red oak bows with real run offs and haven't had them break (knock on wood).  That looks good.

Just wondering. What did you glue the handle on with? I'm asking because the pic looks like most if not all of the dip is in the handle piece. Hard to tell but did you work some of the dip into the board as well? That would be the one area I'd be concerned about. Tiller looks good though!

handle glued on with TB II.  that fade in the handle is just barely worked into the limb, you are correct. i know you are supposed to continue that angle from the handle down into the limb wood, but i'm finding that difficult to pull off.  just got me a bench sander, might make that maneuver a little easier.
