I don't have a problem Kegan and the people I have made bows for tell me that my bows are some of the finest they have ever shot. I have to agree with them 
that's hilarious!
i know what you mean about the quartersawn hickory backings. The only hickory backing i ever had give way was quartersawn! The rest are all plain sawn with grain step downs every step of the way from tip to tip.
Marc i've been following your guidelines for heat-treating with good success. White oak quartersawn responds very well to dry heat, shapes easily, and retains reflex. Yew, i haven't heat-tempered, but i have used dry and wet heat both to deal with off-center tips and in one case i popped some extreme reflex out of a bow by steaming the stave and kinking it at the center.
I've never shot a bow like yours here, with that handle shape. How does it feel in the hand? I guess you'll say "finer than any other"!
