Weight of Silk Backing

Hi,  I have some silk, that I'd like to back an ash recurve with, however it is very fine.  It is basically see through.  Does anyone know anything about the protection offered from different weight of silk fabrics, other than the obvious "thicker is stronger."  I'm not sure what the standard 'weights' for silk fabric are or if there are even standards.  For those of you who've used silk backings, was it a very fine 'see through' material or thicker.  Any failures? Thanks for any help.

I just got done putting some silk on the back of a thin ringed Osage bow and got along fine. It wasn't very thick. In fact after I glued it on and let it dry you could hardly tell it was on there.  Dean

You will be fine. Silk is incredibly strong, part of the reason we like it so much.
