45" osage crooked sinew backed ponybow.  3 layers deer leg, 1 layer deer back and then a limb wrap.

Bow is pulling 65lbs at 22.5".

Bows first shot from 20yds was high in the lung, the next six were in the kill zone.  Will be using for this years hog and deer season.

thats one cool short bow.  if not to much trouble could we get a side view of the unbraced profile.  just wondering how you did your cuz i got lots of short osage and 4 or 5 hanks of sinew.

Nice job on that shorty.  I see ya got a second one there for a matched pair .  Did you wrap around the entire limb, meaning back and belly?

Yes, I wrapped all the way around the limb.  I started doing this years ago when I made a 48" shorty (not the one in the avatar) and when the sinew dried it caused stress cracks lengthways up the limb.

I wrapped the sinew around the limbs to keep the bow together and have just kept doing it on my short bows.  Well, all except the elm recurve but that's another story.


That second stave is a 43 incher.  I will be pushing the envelope on that one.  First I need to sinew the 58" recurve.  Looks like I'm going to be hitting the processor this coming deer season.

great little bow,  with a punch

i've seen wrappings done on horn bows,  i believe it is to minimize collateral damage in the event of implosion..   nothing wrong with playing it safe.

how wide are the limbs and nocks?

I've always made my bows nock heavy.  Thes nocks are around 7/8" wide and the widest part of the widest limb is 1 1/4" wide.  I have been lectured to at many shoots on how I should thin out my limb tips as osage can handle it.  It will make my bows so much faster.  I just smile, I know what thinning the limb tips will do, but it's not my style.  Like my limbs, they are never the exact same dimensions.

That's a wicked looking little bow. Should be great for hunting in the brush, and you've got enough poundage to make up for the short draw. You did a fine job on that one.
