backing on HBH splintered

before anyone asks I dont have a digital camera so no pictures. The hickory backing splintered on my sons longbow. It cracked along the grain vertically, the bow did not crack. it looks as if the glue let go and the backing broke. it is 1/3 the way down the lower limb. does anyone have a suggestion on why and how to fix.

What kind of glue was used to put the backing on?? You could also try glueing the splinter back down and putting silk or somthing on the back to help keep it down.

Heat it up to about 150 I think and the backing should come off

Yep if you use heat the backing should start to let go.. then just keep heating it and peeling it of.. Or try and repair it first and see what happens..
