New BBI pics
« on: March 30, 2009, 09:53:31 pm »
Here's one I just finished up, and I'm plum tickled with it. I made it from a blank I got from KnightD. It's bamboo-backed ipe, first time I've worked with ipe, but definitely not the last. It's 64" ntn, 57# @ 27", about an inch wide at the fades. Took almost no set-tips are still about 3/4" in front of the handle, started out at a fuzz over an inch reflex after I shortened it a few inches before tillering. Riser is osage, purpleheart, hickory, and ipe. Tip overlays are purpleheart, padauk, and mahogany. I pimped this one up a little with the laminated overlays and dye job. I tillered it until the reflex was almost straight at full draw, could probably get the tips opening up just a bit more and make a couple minor adjustments; but I like the weight its at and love the way it shoots so I'm leaving well enough alone. This thing is faaassst and shoots right where I'm looking. I named it "Hot Chocolate" because of the color and zippiness. The photos really don't do it justice, I'll try to get some better ones up if I can get an afternoon that isn't cloudy and dreary.

NICE! 8) You know I like that kinda bow. You did a really great job on it. I like how you did the handle and that dye job is cool. Im working on a similar blank from David but with different woods in the handle. Great to see how it shines with that nice finish you put on it. At 57# Im sure its got plenty of power ;)

Now that is purtier than a speckled pup in a little red wagon!  Nice one.  Make sure to bring it to the Classic.

Well I'll be danged Steve!  It's been so long since I've seen you with a bow in your hands, I thought you'd just quit 'em and took up knapping ;D
That's a nice looking piece of equipment.
I just finished up a little 58" BBI David sent me also.  I have to agree with you on the speed thing.   The one I have is deceivingly fast.  I say that, because it shoots so smooth and quiet you'd think it was slow but after putting a few arrows through my chronograph. I was amazed!
  That Ipe/bamboo combo is awesome.
Be thankfull for all you have, because no matter how bad you think it is...it can always be worse.

Thanks again, guys. Yeah, I guess it's been awhile since I posted one-just been busy lately with work, going back to college, family, and everything else at once. Made a couple that I probably forgot to post, and I've got a bunch of half finished ones sitting around. Kinda got the wood scraping bug again, so I'll probably have a couple more up before long.
