Tiller Help request on Yew Flatbow w/ Stiff Handle
« on: March 08, 2009, 09:54:25 pm »
Hello,

This is a Yew Flatbow I started while being sick this week.  Since it's spliced I have a stiff handle and I'm really struggling trying to read the tiller since I normally only build bend through the handle bows.  I'll gladly take any advice you have to lend.  As of right now, it's pulling around 52# @ 26" and the bow is 62" tip to tip.

The bow shoots quite nicely and has very, very little handshock.  I think the upper limb is too stiff around mid limb.  Anybody agree/disagree?

Thanks for any help!!!

Joe

Joe, Looks like the mid limbs need some attention to me.The bottom limb gotta a lil crook in it? It looks a bit stronger than the top one. Might have to go a lil extra on it.Leave them inner 1/3rds alone.

Joe-
That bow is looking nice.  I would agree about the mid limbs being a bit stiff, I wouldn't mess with the fades to the inner mid limb , work the midlimb and see how it looks.  Save the tips for the final few inches of draw.  That looks like it going to be a sweet bow.

Joe, I have to agree. The mid limbs need a bit more bending and the fades don't. She's gonna be nice!

Especially the top limb. But it's hard to say. Do you have any prop twist? Jawge

Thanks for the help so far.  Regarding your questions:

1. ZERO set after 75 shots.
2. Yes the lower limb has some funky "bulges" where some knots are located.
3. Yes the bow has a very small amount of prop twist.  Is there anything I can do this late in the game?

And YES to everyone; I'll leave the inner thirds alone!

I'll work on the mid limbs over the next few days.

Thanks for all of your help; this was how the bow looked after initial tillering by hand and without using a tree and I'm happy to be as close as I am.

No, Joe, I asked because that affects the tiller picture. Now look at it from the other side. Right now I'd say you are golden. Nice job! Jawge
