I'm glad I'm not the only one that waits until I'm done to break my points or knives.  Good looking work.  Justin

I've watched Claude do it a couple of ways. He always leaves the point flat and sets it up in are carved out wooded platform. He then prepares and strikes the nipple as most people do. the other way is to use a little pressure vice, forgot the name, but it's like a little lever and you just keep applying pressure until it pops.

I have seen the vice.. but it dose not leave a floot flake scare thats typical of a original point.

I do have one idea.. i could make a preform 3'' longer then i need it.. so lets say 6'' total.. than knock off one good float over 1/2 down the point. than knock the 2nd float off hard enough to end snap it. take my pressure flaker and touch it up.. and wala got a 3'' Folsom.. thats the plan. i dont have a pice of rock large enough over here so I'll have to wait till i get bake to try this.

Jesse, part of the thing I was talking about is to set the tip up on a bevel toward the side you're fluting. Then when you put the tip on a block of antler or hardwood and smack the nipple, it's almost like bipolar flaking. Most original Folsoms are a lot smaller than Clovis points-like 2-3" long.

Some came from Glass Buttes, compliments of Brian Melton. The other came from Justin, Utah. They are both good. I found the purple streaks in the stuff from Justin.

Jesse, I'll try-I sure haven't mastered fluting folsoms yet, either. I can get a decent Clovis now and then, but I'm sure no expert on fluting. I'm positive I  can show you how to roll-fracture one into two pieces on the second flute. ;D I'm like you, jig fluting just don't do it for me-I like to try to figure out how to do it like they did it. EOTWS, the usual primitive method of splitting antler is to soak it until it gets soft, then score it with a burin flake and split it.

Nice job on the points Eddie. Too bad on the knife but nice save though, I'll have to get around to some fluting one of these days.
