A Bent Stick Eh
« on: November 09, 2008, 02:23:27 pm »
Here's a Vine Maple I just finished up. 50# at 26", 60" NTN, no overlays with a simple cordage grip.
Stained with leather dye and sealed with tru-oil. I've been working on this for a good year and half
it was seriously crooked, the tips were a good 5" outside the handle then throw in the knots and
whoop de dos and I was stumped for a long time so it sat in the corner of shame. Finally I felt up to the task
so I steamed it and got the tips about 3" closer, then 3 more sessions with the heat gun and while not centered
the string is on the handle. Pulled one splinter while straightening it but managed to remove it by some side tillering.
While the tiller looks stiff in the outer third of the limb they are bending and for a problem stave I'm happy with it.
Shoots hard and fast and overall I'm impressed with Vine Maple. Now who has a straight piece to trade :)
Will be giving this one away also haven't decided yet but its between two people :) Comments good or bad welcome.

Looks good Dana. The f/d pic pointing left looks like you have a more even bend thru out. Nice dye job too. Someone is gonna be a lucky recipient! 8)    Pat

Nice all the way around.  And, you are permitted to smile in pictures now.
Man, that snow makes me wish I was in Montana now.
