Bamboo backed Yellowheart(not for BOM)

I picked up some Satinwood a few months ago but only got to make a bow with a couple weeks ago.  It is a nice wood to work with.  Here's some pictures of the finished bow









The bow is 63" long overall  with limbs 1 1/8" wide tapering to 3/8" nocks.  It came off the form with about 2" of glued in reflex and it kept nearly 1" of that tillering the bow out.  I tillered the bow out to just under 60# @ 28".  I used some tropical hardwoods I picked up in Ottawa for the handle and overlays but I'm not sure what they are.  They do have some pretty attractive grain.  I may use this bow for hunting as it wil do for just about anything we have up here and I know there's a Moose hanging out behind my house  .

Really nice Mark. Did the wood bother your breathing at all? I worked with satinwood a few years ago but found I was really sensitive to it, it irritated my eyes and sinuses quite a bit. The yellow heart which is similar seemed a lot friendlier. Steve

I wrote this earlier but somehow it vanished...probably user error.  That is a sweet bow and worthy of emulation.  I have got to give this wood a try.  Is it easy to work Marc? Gonna be hard to beat this one for backed BOM.

Pat. It does look like Osage in color but this wood is not ring porous.

Steve. Satinwood is listed as Yellowheart.  I know there are several different species listed as Yellowheart and I'm not quite sure which one this is.  I know it is quite heavy , my guess around .9 and it also has great compression strength and good elasticity.  I was not bothered by the dust

The wood is fairlly easy to work.

I wasn't going to include a full draw picture because I don't want it entered in BOM.  I just changed the title instead

Just noticing the shelf cut into the bow, do you leave the fades straight on that limb to do that ?
