new board bow
« on: June 25, 2008, 01:46:06 pm »
This is my second red oak board bow (fourth bow attempt), 65”ntn, about 44# @ 27”. It is ambidextrous; ash backed with bubinga and curly maple accents.  I used quarter sawed grain (block in one picture).  What do you think?

That's a nice one, brother. I can just imagine how sweet she'd feel in my hands, has to be a smooth sweet shooter and should be pretty accurate. Excellent job.

That's a very nice bow! Your tiller looks spot-on to me. Is there much hand shock? If it was me, I'd lighten the tips a bit more. It'll improve cast. You have tip overlays, so it shouldn't be a problem. Good work. Time to make some osage dust!

Looks nice....Tiller looks great....but I am with  ADB3112.... ??? ...I would lighten the Tips a little and round the edges off some ...it will not only make it look way nicer....but will keep it from throwing a Splinter too

Here's another view of the nock. The end of the limb, right before the fat part of the nock is .38" wide x .65" thick.

El, what size radius would be good on top and bottom?

Gary: Man that is one sweet looking bow - love that grip/rest area! Never seen tips like that, sure you could reduce the thickness of the oak on belly side to reduce hand shock - as much work as you obviously put into these tips, you might just want to work that in on the next one though :).

Nice bow.  That's a nice a handle buildup as I've seen on a selfbow.  Even though I consider it an abomination, it's still great craftsmanship.

Quite the razoo handle and tip. I bet the handle construction equaled the time spent on the rest of the bow. Got your bow bookmarked #30 for June Self Bow of the Month :P

Great looking bow. Some really nice personal touches. Love the accents. Tillering is spot on.
