What are everyone's thoughts on maple backings? What about with osage?
I have some beautiful 3/16" maple backing strips, with perfect straight longitudinal grain. No run off.

Ive backed black locust with it before which was a excellent combonation. Never tried it with osage but I don't see why it wouldnt work if the grain is as good as you say. Try it, and let us know your results.
