Anyone ever done this?
« on: December 07, 2024, 11:06:28 am »
I have a 1:2 set. Has anyone strung a bow backwards and let it set that way for a couple weeks. And if so what was the results?
Well I'll say!!  Osage is king!!

How far forward did you pull the tips? I would expect that it will look like there is less set after you unstring it and that the set comes back the first time you shoot the bow again.

Yes.  I’ve done this and it never works to reclaim reflex.  Even when applying a backing like hide or sinew I’ll back string it for a few weeks and may actually increase back set string depth as it cures and dries.  Only able to keep some reflex.  Different story when heat treating and adding reflex by hardening belly on fairly unstressed wood.  I’d be very surprised if you gained any lost to set or reflex.

Never have on purpose but did try it in the dark once before climbing in the stand, didn't turn out so well.  :(

I've seen some improvement from heat treating the belly while the limb was slightly flexed backward...
