I purchased a bunch of yew staves and billets from a company that went out of business. I Z-spliced a couple at a time but, each time I had to relearn the setup, so that's why I did the lot at one time. The jig is set for 1 1/4” but, you can change it by modifying the block sizes. I resized these photos which made them look distorted, the Z-splices are 3 1/2” long. The block on the far left is fixed to the sled which is your first cut, you add the second block for the second cut and then the third block.
I'll send a photo of the jig with a billet attached so you'll get the idea.
