European Yew Branch Bow
« on: February 10, 2022, 10:27:35 am »
Over a year ago I bought a bunch of yew branches cut by some guy from his garden. It's one of few ways to get this wood in Poland. All of these were crooked and thin. The bow I'm presenting today is made from one of these branches. At thicker end it was 2", at thinner not even 1 1/2". I've chased the ring on the back which is almost D - shaped. The stave had a lot of natural reflex. I had to straighten it a bit with the use of steam.

The bow is 62" ttt and I tillered it to 25 lb at 25". I was hoping for a bit more but it just didn't wanted to become a stronger bow. I've made tips in mollegabet style. Tips overlays are from cow horn. What I love about it, just after long shooting it comes back straight to nearly 2" of natural reflex.

You can see how was it built here:

Thanks for watching!  (-_)

Nice tiller on that snaky yew bow.  :OK  What is the black stippling on the handle?

Really nice!  I'd like to see more of the back.  I assume it has a big crown to it?  I love the way the heartwood shows through on the levers.  Good work.
