I have never tried any Douglas fir for arrows. Would it be any good to carve bulbous nocks into them?? How dence are they? And I'm talking about the ones from Carson brown.. thanks!

I've used doug fir shafts and I like them. IME they're a little tougher than POC, similar weight. Good all-around arrow. Don't know about bulbous nocks. I cut self-nocks into mine and wrapped with silk thread to keep them from splitting.

They should work ok with bulbous nock if the neck isn't too thin. I've never made bulbous nocks so take what I said with a grain of salt.

I’m with Thomas and Pat, you might also cut in an insert.
