PatB - these being my first ones, I actually really enjoyed the process. There was something satisfying about getting the taper to fit as closely as possible. I wish I hadn't waited so long to try. At least now I have a box full of horn to experiment with.
barebo - The backing is just over 1/8" thick and ideally it should be closer to that or less I think. Mine is 1 1/4" wide for the middle 8" and then a convex taper to just under 1/2" tips. I need to make my horn nock taper bit narrower so I can do smaller ones. The belly is definitely rounded, though for the last few inches of tillering, I removed more wood from just the top of the rounded belly to flatten it out a bit. My hickory backing is also crowned to the point that it is narrower than the actual width of the bow. That probably helps.
Hamish - The dimensions are 1 1/4" wide and 3/4" deep at the handle. I specifically wanted to avoid what looked like a raised up handle section for my own aesthetic preference.
