Osage stave?

I understand following a growth ring on the back. Once you leave the fades do you try to stay on a growth ring on the belly? Do you let the tiller decide?

As I’m sure most of you know, there’s a big difference in working an Osage stave and a Red oak board!

I will tell you another thing NOT to do; back when I was starting out one of the so called experts was putting out how important it was to feather the growth rings on the belly to a nice even taper down the middle of the belly. I tried it a couple of times with disastrous results and realized this expert wasn't too expert after all.

Don't worry about what the grain does on osage bows belly, it has a tendency to go any which way.

It's all about the tiller so do not follow a growth ring on the belly. Jawge
