cutting string angle for recurve tips

How do you cut the string angle the right way for recurve tips? Thanks Chuck

I do it initially on all bows by measuring down on the belly side 1" and on the back 3/4" and use a chainsaw file to cut the groove. This gives me about a 45 degree angle. I start out with temporary nocks then adjust them on the final tip shaping.

I put overlays on all my bows and only cut across the back until I get to full brace, then I do this; perfect every time, I draw a line on each side of the string. I cut a perfectly centered groove on the belly and blend my lines into it.

The overlay in the picture is only roughed out, I will make it pretty later. That is a groove for parachute cord bow stringer above the string groove.
