Another one goes bang
« on: August 07, 2019, 06:24:13 am »
Funny how all the minor issues always seem to be at the same point and lead to failure  ::) .
TBF I was pushing it hard for a few reasons.
https://bowyersdiary.blogspot.com/2019/08/damn-working-it-too-hard.html

This also sort of ties in with the "when to pull to full draw weight" thread.
It was going to be a heavy weight flight warbow for shooting big 1/2" and 3/8" "military" and "standard" arrows. Yew with an 1/4 sawn Ash back, it was just some timber I happened to have and wasn't carefully selected primo stuff... more of an experiment.
I was exercising at 100#, target 120# . I could see the middle was working hard, but just wanted to see the draw length at 110#  ::)

A shame. The twisted grain backing strikes again.

I'm guessing it won't be the last Del. You like to push em. It sounds like a combo of things working to foil your war bow. You'll no doubt be victorious in your next one.

PS went to your link to see if you had a video. I remember the one where your feet rise up in the air after the bow breaks on the tree.lol that was a good one.

Opps!  I guess where a pulley and rope come in handy!  Maybe they don't go "Boom" at 45-50#?  (--) >:D!

Shame but dodgy grain on backings is a deal breaker :)
