Fred Kasch Passed Away

Mr. Kasch pased away yesterday, a week shy of his 95th birthday.  A lot of you may know Fred, he attended many archery and bowmaking events across the country.  He was a fixture at all the MOJAMs I've been to.

Oh Man!! Fred was a wealth of knowledge, and very giving of his knowledge, he will surely be missed.

It's good to know that all this yellow dust will not automatically lead to a shortened life.

I think Mickey Lotz had some photos of Fred teaching a kid how to make bow strings.

I remember Fred, and he was very inspirational, and lived a full life..Two things I hope I accomplish...

Very sorry to hear this. My wife and I were fortunate to shoot the courses at Compton Rendevous in Michigan 2 years ago with Fred. My wife and I were truly amazed at his life accomplishments as an educator and as an archer. I remember Fred telling us while shooting his osage selfbow that he made some 40 years earlier that he finally re-tillered it to a lower draw weight prior to coming to the event. I was shocked to find out at the end of his story about hunting Africa that he was 91 when he did it. I learned a lot in a short amount of interaction with him. I was shooting a hickory longbow that day and he wanted to shoot it if it was okay. I was amazed at his accuracy with a completely unfamiliar bow, especially at 64 pounds! I know that I'm not the only one that Fred inspired and he will be truly missed.

Gary Davis introduced me to Fred a few years ago at Mojam. I sat with him at the potluck dinner and he talked about bows the whole time...learned alot just listening...couldnt help but feel like a little boy at Grandpa's knee. A true gentleman in every sense of the word...Goodbye Fred, we shall meet again. Say high to J.C. for me.

I cant help but wonder why we could not have a thread dedicated to those who have gone on before us. I keep thinking of this every time i hear/see info about those who have passed on. It seems to me such an important aspect of life itself.

My sympathy for Mr. Kasch's family as well as for his friends.
 I regret the chance of not ever being able to meet him.
