Yewanized Rowan 62" - 46# @ 27"
« on: May 30, 2019, 08:13:25 am »
Hi Folks

I started this bow last autumn. When I brought it to brace it immediately chrysaled. I put it aside and started another one with different wood. At this point I was done with rowan and swore not to use this wood anymore. Around xmas I was bored and started scraping flat the belly a bit. After scraping more from time to time I glued two yew scraps on the belly and tillered it freshly. I'm very happy about how fast and accurate it shoots now. Also I'm also amazed that all hold's together with that cheap white wood glue and only 1/10" of yew facing. Regularly shooting it @ 25" where it pulls 42#. Tiller on top limb is not perfect - nevermind...

Cheers

I've done this a few times and all have worked well.  It opens a lot of doors if you have a "corner of shame".  ;)

I love this sort of experimental bowyery, too many people just give up on a bow rather than trying things and learning new stuff.
Looks like a gorgeous bow too.
Shows why it's worth keeping all those craps too  :)

hey bowmakers, glad you like it. it's really not such complicated and it can upgrade a b-stave (-; the scraping was annoying, I wish I had an electric powered scraper. lets see how durable it will be. cheers

Flattening the belly by hand like that is a lot of work but you did good.  Well done
