Black Locust bow
« on: January 05, 2019, 06:57:37 pm »
I built this bow during the bow trade last year as a reserve bow to make sure that everyone that sent a bow out got one in return.  I never posted finished pictures of this bow.

The bow is 56 inches tip to tip and 54 inches between nocks.  It draws 52 pounds at 27 inches.  This is the first bow I ever attempted to paint on.  I enjoyed the process.  Here are the pictures.

Very nice!  I'm sort of looking forward to working the piece of BL that I have!  Should be interesting!  How wide and thick are the limbs?  Thanks,

Nice stick Swampman. I like it. The bend is perfect and the artwork is just right. It would be a handy dandy hunting bow.

Thank you all for the nice comments.

Hawkdancer, the bow is 1 3/4 inches wide tapered to 1 1/4 inches at the tips.  The top limb goes out to 2 inches wide at a knot.  I thought the handle would be too wide to comfortably shoot but I glued on some leather strips under the handle wrap and I find it quite comfortable to shoot.

Nice Bow, Mike.  It is nice to see you posting lots of new stuff again.  Do you place the arrow above or below the fur lining on the handle?
