Other than tasting good I don't know a lot about hogs. I'm thinking he's probably a young one though and probably a good eater. Looks like a boar. Can you tell if he's casturated? Looks like he's had his eye teeth removed. Only hogs we've had we're 4-H hogs. I know they grow from piglet to butcher hog real fast. We usually got the piglets in March and by August they were ready to butcher. Em em good. Pearl probably knows more about those critters. He seems to have a few experiences with them.

Can you judge the age of this buck Ed  ;D   First time getting one of these on trail camera.

With young bucks like you showed there a person usually is'nt off more than a year.I can't claim to be ultra accurate by sight.Proper teeth aging is the most accurate.I'll say 2and 1/2.At that age they look a lot like a race horse.Up to 4 and 1/2.It's when they get above 5.5 year old it's harder to judge. They become more sway backed large bodied and blocky looking.
Your pig has got some age I'd say.I'm glad those things are'nt around here. You must have seen sign of their activity in the past if you've got wild ones around.I'd shoot that sucker for sure.Like you said there's good bacon/ham there.I think the way it stands in Iowa there is an open season year round on those fellas.Like coyotes.

The hog looks like a domestic that has got loose from somewhere.  Animal control has been trying to find it.

BJ, It's either a boar or it has a bad case of hemorrhoids  :o

A domestic will turn into a wild pig looks wise[longer snout etc.] and everything if left loose wild long enough.

That's true Ed.   According to the laws in Indiana, I can't shoot a domestic animal that belongs to someone else.  But I am allowed to kill any and all wild hogs with any weapon at any time.  So when does it officially become a wild hog and not a domestic?

Guessing he's not casturated then. I'd take him first chance I got.

I'd say check the free range laws and with the state Wildlife office, but I agree with DBar!  That doesn't look like he's missed any meals!  I'm not even stress our Parks & Wildlife have addressed the issue, but we do have a lot of open range land here in Colorado that covers all livestock, I think.  However, hogs may not be included!  I'll check.

Clint....If you know your neighbors and 1 of them claim to have a pig missing the right thing to do would be to inform them. You guys can do a pig round up.That'll be fun.If 1 pig is getting out more will follow I'm afraid.

Well then it's up to you if you get a chance to shoot it I quess. If it hangs in your area and keeps destroying things which it will I'd say you could get a degradation tag maybe to harvest it if you want to do it the completely legal way.
Around here I usually just take care of it and be done with it.Lots of by products out of that old boy I'd say besides meat. You got a smoker?Almost wish I had one running around here.....lol.
I'm going to tender quick brine and smoke a deer roast or two myself with my smoker.

You might call the G&F and see what they say. They don't want exotics competing with wildlife, especially pigs.

I don't have a smoker but Danznbar has one.

Pat, Animal control has been looking for that hog.  I think it's been making the rounds and getting a lot of calls reported.
