Marc-The deflex method was just a try to see if it might be easier/neater but I just don't have the talent to get a nice glue line on something like that. It also doesn't allow a precise way of adjusting the deflex. After I glued that chunk in I flattened it out and that left a surface that I couldn't reach with the belt sander. It was smooth but wavy. I cut a bunch of pieces of Maple .030 thou veneer and layered it on with epoxy. About 15 layers i think. Wrapped it up with a bike tube. I actually turned out nice. Glue joints were nice and tight and where I sanded across it in the fades it had a nice Osagey look. Yes, OS likes heat treating even though it is very dense, SG-1.2.
240- You made me think, that 400 grain arrow was too light, it pulls 43#, I should have used a 430 grain arrow. I guess the speed should be a little less, darn.
Brendan- It's a piece of OS. I think the piece had a shellacked back so it looks like yew heartwood.
George-I used West Systems Epoxy. I have had trouble with OS risers popping off but I think that was before I got my belt sander. The 36 grit belt seems to leave a texture that epoxy likes.
