Hackberry bow dimensions
« on: April 21, 2018, 10:09:41 pm »
Hey fellers! My buddy yellowstave and myself were cutting some nice sage today and ran into the straightest looking hackberry imaginable. What would be a good layout for some hackberry?

My favorite is 64-66” parallel till last third then tapering to tips. I hear that you’ve got to make hackberry wide, but I’ve not made one over 1 1/2” wide and haven’t had any set problems with a good heat on the belly and over 64” long.

Draw length x 2 + 10" has worked good for me. I prefer 1.75-2.00" wide, pyramid or parallel, your choice.
Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realize we cannot eat money.

  Yup, good luck.

66" long and 2" wide, for a stiff handle and 28" draw, is a great place to start with almost any white wood.

Make adjustments from there.  Add a couple inches length or another 3/8" width for a longer draw, or very high draw weight.   More pyramid for lower crown, more parallel sides for a higher crown or narrow stave.
