The main profile was bend and mildly heat treated in this black locust. One hook on this dude is bent just now. Tomorrow I’ll get the other side vent. Steamed for the foil and heat gun method for about 30 min then used dry heat to help it walk around the curve. It did crack and split a bit at one point. But te tip is still about 1/2” thick, so it’ll come right out as I clean it up.  Hopefully itll shoot better than the first two.

The first hook held and I’m working on ateaming the second while working on on my first cup of coffee.
Thanks don, I’m hoping this one goes well too. If not, it can easily become a short bendy handle. So I won’t cry too much

Well, I guess it’ll be tonight when I can finish the other hook. While heating this one, the heat gun just made a loud pop, with a nice big spark and quit. SO now I’ve gotta pick up a new one when I go to town later.

My heat gun did the same thing last time I used it. So how long do you heat up a piece that thick? I usually do steam. Can't say I've tried the dry heat method.

Those tips are about 1/2” thick. Maybe a bit more. But under the foil is a wet paper towel that will boil and steam when hit with the heat gun. I let it steam that way for about 30 minutes before I clamped thenstave to the form. I follow up with the heat gun to keep the wood hot to it’ll easily flow around the form. I oil the wood with olive or vegetable oil so it won’t soak up the water before the water gets hot. I’ve had a few check bad on me Because of water absorbsion.
I got the other side bent last night.  It went more smoothly than the first. The first hook had worse grain atructure for sharp bends so I did it first Incase it broke or didn’t want to bend. But they both went well enough to use.

Few more. I may have compressed them too much. We’ll see what y’all think.

I’ll fix those pics tonight. The resolution is way too low.  At least on my phone it is.

Nice looking bow Hoosier! I fitted/epoxied on horn nocks on my victims bow today. It's pulling about 80 pounds right now. I will get some pics up tomorrow after I shape them some. Cheers- Brendan
