Howdy fellas,  still mulling the birch and letting the sinew do its thing so I started this linen backed Osage. I call it a timber bow instead of a stave bow or board bow because it came from a sweet barn timber my dad found in IN.

So far she’s 63” NTN, 1 5/8” wide, tiger wood handle overlay, Wisconsin whitetail tip overlays with a linen back. It’s a true quartersawn piece and i think it’s gonna be a dandy. I love this one so it’s probably the one that goes to my victim.

Right now it’s 51# @ 28” .  I have not shot it yet but tillering is nearly done. I gonna do an experiment with heat treating. I know the draw weight so I’ll put a light toast on it and see how much the weight increases.

Pics are right after it came off the tree. She’ arrow straight after a few mins so i think the heat treat will be good for it.

I got a little further in the ERC elb. The horn has horn has been shaped and nocks cut. I haven’t messed with thes style nocks much. But I think they’ll turn out ok. Everything has been rough sanded. It’s been pulled to 50# at 25” before gluing I’m the nocks and sanding. I just need to shoot it in now and see where it ends up at 27-28”. Once I’ve shot and found the arrow pass, I’ll probably insert a piece of horn for a more durable arrow pass.

I still have to shoot it. But here’s how it’s looking at the moment. Pulling 50# at 27”.

That ERC is gonna look great all prettied up with them horn nocks.

I been plugging along using every chance I have to work on my bow. Progress has been slow but continue to move forward. Need to make a string and have 1 more inch of tillering before I try to run some arrows through it. Don't have a good pic of tip overlays atm but made them form tulip wood and water buffalo horn. Still have a little work to do final shaping the lower nock.

I got some good ideas on how to dressing it up but don't want to go out of order, need to make sure I do my best on the bend 1st.

Thanks guys.

Got the last inch of tillering finished. I have to say...a 5 second video from a phone camera does wonders for me to see how the limbs are bending. String is made, and gave it a workout this weekend(100 shots). So far so good. Im very happy with how it shoots. Unbraced profile looks good still and should be fine. Need to run some more arrows through it but don't think I will need to make any adjustments at this point.

Had to include, in pics below, some pictures showing the tip overlays. I just kinda winged it but will be refining this shape in future bows. Also below is a picture including some of what I need to finish things up. Going to try cherry bark for the handle and have some dogbane I cut this winter for making some cordage. Going to leave it at that for now. May be a while before I can get it all together.
