New board? Lets get y’all input
« on: January 14, 2018, 06:29:33 am »
We've had a muzzleloader board that has been doing fairly well.
I know a lot of us have many hobbies that surround our love of primitive archery and we make our own broadhead and knives from stone and steel.

How would y'all feel about a new board called 'The Forge' where we discuss and show off our forges and blade or point making and discuss the craft of shaping, laminating and treating metals?

Hell I wouldn't be surprised if someone on here forged their own rifle bits.

I would be interested in that.  It would keep topics more organized and easier to find.  The search function on here is terrible.

I'd probably check it out. I haven't played with forge yet but I am interested in learning about it.

Sounds good to me, I think a lot of us are forging and building knives
failure is an option, everyone fails, it's how you handle it that matters.

It would probably keep "the campfire" from getting too crowded! I would be checking it, even though I don't do any forging - yet,

That's sounds like a great idea. I've messed with forging a bit but not enough to join a blade forum, so it would be nice to have it on here to be able to ask the basic questions.

I would like to see it happen. I like making knives, It would be nice to ask questions, also to see some knives made by others.

If this post gets enough traction I’ll talk to the admins or something and hopefully get the board started. Bc there are some things id like to learn from more experienced people.
My dad works at a foundry and he made me a Damascus flat bar a few years ago and after some filing, grinding, polishing and acid stuff I made my first knife! The handle is African Blackwood and sheep horn. I hit the rivet a little hard and cracked just the surface of the horn so it didn’t compromise anything really. I still have to buff the finIsh but it’s basically done.
