Laminate limb splices
« on: November 29, 2017, 07:43:11 am »
Hi Fellas I Have been milling up laminate slats for Bamboo backed type bows but have some shorter billet type staves that I need to splice I have seen it done from simple skive joints to z splices to simple v splice Im wondering if a simple v splice is a solid joint for this type bow as it would be a easer joint and I will be using smooth on for the joint and it will be center riser ?

Joints on the belly aren't really a prob' I've use simple butt joints (on a crossbow prod I'm making). short Z splices, short V splices. I wouldn't use a scarf joint on the belly... ok in the core, but not on the belly IMO

Nothing more than a butt splice with the ERC on this 3 lam longbow.  Bow is 68" long and pulls 55# @ 29"

I didn't think it would take much of a splice under a 13 in. Riser but that is a beautiful example you have there Marc !

If the handle is rigid then scarf joint is fine. I do all mine that way because I fond I think easy with a small jig on the disc sander.
