Elm flat bow and some action pics (pic heavy)
« on: June 16, 2017, 01:45:04 pm »
Allright….its been a while, but my hands have not been idle. Im still producing bows, but im shooting more and spending less time on the internet. Anyways, I thought I would share my lates project and some “field” photos, but first some background.

I have sort of convinced two bowyer buddies of mine to ditch fibreglass and pick up selfbows for competitive 3D shooting. Last year we entered with three yew longbows named after the three Norns of nordic mythology. All was well until one Norn broke her back, so we had to rethink and regroup for 2017.

Being Danes we decided to honour our roots and make wych elm flatbows and shoot those exclusively for 2017. Keep in mind that there is no dedicated primitive 3D class in Denmark (apart for a few events) so we are up against glass.

This is what I came up with. 68” of wych Elm with natural 5 curve (I did have to stem bend sideways in the handle). It started out at 63#, but was quickly reduced to the current 55#. Nocks are antler tied on with Elm cambrium. The arrows are hassle shoot and kinda fits the whole theme.

I don’t have a proper FD shot, but I do have some from the Danish Open 3D event

I also have this series of rapid photos. I had to down size, but its still fun to see that hassle arrow leave the bow.

Thanks for watching, and thanks to my buddy Jon for bothering with the camera work

Cheers

Very nice bow and very nice photos.  That 3D course looks like a lot of fun.
I like the use of the inner bark of the elm to attach the nocks.

Sweet bow all around. I love the primitive wrap on nocks. Great photos. Make me want to get up and go shoot.
