Yew Branch bow
« on: June 13, 2017, 09:04:40 pm »
This is my first Yew branch. I will be doing more, I was really pleased with the look. It was about 1 1/4" in diameter. You can see the sapwood wrap almost all the way around the handle. It's 66" NTN and 43#@27". When i got the branch I roughed it out and strapped it to an R/D caul. It stayed there for six months or so and then went into the warm box for another 3 or 4 months. The recurves didn't stay bent well so I steamed them into a better shape. It took a little set and ended up with the tips about an inch behind the handle. I could have heated a bit of deflex out but it shot nice and I didn't want to mess up the string alignment. It shoots in the 155 fps @10gpp range. Tips are fumed Ocean Spray and the arrow pass is fumed end grain Ocean Spray with a chalk powder/CA line.

And the FD shots. The first one is right side up and the second is up side down.

Thanks, that's what really caught my eye. Once I saw what the handle was going to look like I couldn't put it down until I more or less finished it.

That's a nice bow! Love the colours and the rd shape. Working on a yew branch with almost the same shape (but not the nice colors) at the moment!

Beautiful Don! Hey now, seems like you might be joining the "Prolific Bow Builder's Club."  :D

You're putting out some really great ones.  ;)
