2017 non-invitational bow trade
« on: February 21, 2017, 07:56:13 am »
Hi Everyone,
last night I was flicking through some of the pages from the 2016 non-invitational bow trade, and boy-oh-boy was it good!  I had a blast and learned a huge amount so I was thinking it might be about time to launch this years non-invitational trade using the 2016 pattern?  Thought maybe calling it the Fred Arnold 2017 Trade? Anyone up for co-ordinating it? If not I'll be glad to have a go but I'm still very much a novice and a little bit on the wrong side of the pond.  Any thoughts?
Andrew

I think calling it the Fred Arnold bow trade is a very, very good idea.

I'm new to any of the bow trades, only done the arrow trade. What's all entailed in these trades, or am I asking that question too soon?

Its like a secret-santa : you get given the name, delivery address, draw-weight, shooting arm and draw length of a recipient and someone else in the trade gets given your details. No-one knows who is building for them and your not supposed to give any clues >:D.  Fred's Trade was specifically set up for ALL abilities - some built their very first bow on it, some of the best builders on the forum joined in too. Everyone agrees to build the best bow they can. The duration was unusually long to allow us newbies to learn as much as possible and the group really embraced the teaching and learning ethos with nearly 300 pages of posts over 10 months and around 30 bows dispatched. I built  four bows before I got one right for my guy.  Fred also required that everyone check in with regular updates to keep us all motivated

It's good to hear you learned a lot Andrew! That's what the trade is all about. I can't organize it, but I'm looking forward to making a bow for someone if the trade happens this year.

How long do we have to make the bow for the trade?

Paint me skeptical on this trade from now on.  I've been waiting since last August for my trade bow to arrive  & haven seen it yet.   I can't get anyone to answer be back on it either

Tower, are you aware that Fred passed away?  His son checks in here on his dad's account once in a while, --but that would account for the lack of response.  Every year one or two people flake out and just try to get a bow for nothing, which is unfortunate. If whoever was supposed to send you a bow reads this--carma will come back to get you somewhere.
I will say that most people here on this site will try their very best to do right by their trade partner.  Those that don't go on "The List"

I was not aware of Fred's failing health until recently and I did offer to send a bow to Tower, unfortunately Fred never got the chance to get back to me.
