My brother in law was having a yard sale and his boss asked him to sell this. I ended up getting it for free. No name that I can see. I use it once in a while.

Those are cool.  I think Pappy restored one and hung it in his workshop at Twin Oaks.
I started out with nothin' and I still got most of it left

Here is another one for you Clint. This followed me home out of my grandfathers tool box that was stashed in my dads shed. Always wondered what it was. Any ideas?
I should mention the skull mount in the drill press pic. was done following your directions...thanks.

That's a tool for setting the teeth angle on old saws.  Google: saw wrest

I scored a couple of old Old Hickory butcher knifes and a cleaver this weekend. Make great scrapers.

RPS3, your hatchet might be French made.   The skull looks good.  Here is a video showing how to use a saw wrest.

Paoliguy, can you post a picture of your knives?

I watched it, and now I know. Maybe even use it someday.

I am guessing you meant my hatchet?  Or did I miss a post with another hatchet?

French, very interesting.  I would guess late 19th to early 20th century? I will get pictures of the eye tonight.

My mistake Ksnow.  I was talking about your hatchet.  I got confused by all the cool tool pictures you guys are posting.  Tomorrow I'll post some pictures of the stuff I got out of a $10 auction room a while back.  It was about the best bargain I've got so far.

It is very easy to get confused/distracted by old tools. Look forward to seeing your finds.

Osage, here are a few pics of the eye, both above and below.  There is a slight difference in the flare between the top and bottom, but not much.  Overall, the handle is 21 inches long.

I'd love to pin down more details, but it looks like this will take a lot of research. It definitely does not look mass produced.

Thats a nice looking axe mass produced or not
